MediHat's Core of the Day
I think this would be a fun section to do. I will be posting a defensive or offensive Core every day for a while. The first core that I will be doing is: Empoleon & Zapdos!
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Empoleon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Scald
- Roar
- Protect
- Ice Beam
Due to his fantastic typing in Steel/Water, Empoleon can be one of the greatest counters to Dragons such as Lati@s, and can hit the hard with Ice Beam or phaze them out with Roar. Protect for the turn of Lefties and for scouting moves. Scald for the obligatory STAB with the nice chance to Burn, letting him tank on both sides of the attacking spectrum. Now, while he's a fantastic wall, he does suffer from some pretty common weaknesses in Fighting, Ground, and Electric, which is where the second part of the core comes in...
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Trait: Lightningrod
EVs: 248 HP / 228 Def / 16 SDef / 16 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Thunder Wave
- Hidden Power [Ice]/[Fire]
- Roost
I realize that Lightning Rod Zappy isn't released yet, but this is just theoretical anyway. This guys synergizes so well with Empoleon, it's not even funny. Zapdos resists Fighting (which is why I made him physical), is immune to Ground, and is powered up by Electric, while Empoleon Quad-Resists Ice and resists Rock as well. These two make the perfect defensive core for any team. Now, on to the set. Obvious Thunderbolt is obvious. Thunder Wave to hit annoying Switch-ins and Roost for some reliable healing. The Hidden Power is up to you; while BoltBeam coverage is always nice, Hidden Power [Fire] is great at hitting Steels and Grasses that can't do anything to you anyway. I would have heat Wave as the main option, however it is sadly not possible to have with Lightning Rod
Well, this is my first core of many, and I hope you found it helpful

Re: MediHat's Core of the Day
Lets see, off the top of my head the some popular ones are Manlix <3 (Mantine+Steelix), ChanBro (Chansey+Slowbro) and Jellithorn (Jellicent+Ferrothorn). But just do whatever really, doesn't matter too much
Re: MediHat's Core of the Day
JelliThorn and anything with Chansey are a little too main stream until I run out of creative ideas but I love the ManLix core, so I think that's what I'm gonna do tomorrow.

Re: MediHat's Core of the Day
I can probably fit that into an offensive core somewhere down the line. I'll need to do some playtesting first though.

Like I said, just throwin' out stuff off the toppa my head, mainstream or not
Re: MediHat's Core of the Day
I know But do you think I did a good job on the first one? 'Cause that's how I think I'm going to format the rest of them. Oh, and Special Wall or RestTalk on Mantine? Or both?

ManLix
Here's my second Core of the Day: Mantine and Steelix!
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Steelix (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Toxic/Dragon Tail/Roar
- Stealth Rock/Dragon Tail/Roar
The first part of this great UU defensive Core is Steelix, whose mammoth defense (caps at 548!!!) lets him shrug off even super-effective physical attacks. The set itself is pretty straightforward; Earthquake and Stone Edge provide some nice coverage (especially to those Electric and Rock types he switches into). Toxic and Stealth Rock provide some general annoyance for the other team, as Steelix will cause many switches just by entering the battle. However, they can be replaced if you already have Toxic Spike support or another member with Rocks. The main differences between Dragon Tail and Roar is Roar isn't blocked by Sub and has perfect accuracy and Dragon Tail isn't runied by Taunt and can hit Ghost Types. They both have pros and cons, so pick your Poison.
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Mantine (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Scald
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Ice Beam/Toxic/Hidden Power [Flying]/Whirlpool/Confuse Ray/etc.
Mantine is one of the most underrated Pokemon in today's UU metagame. He is able to easily wall the tier's heaviest hitting special attackers. Scald for the must have STAB and the Burn chance helps him a lot if he's forced to take a stray physical move. Rest to Sleep of any Statuses that attempt to rain on his parade and Sleep Talk so he isn't set-up fodder while he sleeps. He has a gigantic support movepool, so there are plenty of options for the last moveslot. Ice Beam and Hidden Power [Flying] provide some extra coverage alongside Scald. Whirlpool can trap an opponent who can't do anything to you, Confuse Ray adds a little annoyance, and there are plenty of other moves I could list as well, but i won't bore you with them.
Good day ._.

Re: MediHat's Core of the Day
First of all, you bloody hack .-. And secondly, very nice core, glad to see it getting some recognition Anywho, couple minor suggestions:
-Invest a bit more in special defense on Steelix, even though it is a core it doesn't mean that they should totally rely on one another. Once Mantine is down you need some special bulk, and his defense is quite impressive even without an investment.
-Gyro Ball definitely deserves a mention in conjunction with a Sassy or Relaxed nature in the second moveslot. The coverage offered it more or less the same, and that receives the stab boost.
-Water Absorb is preferred over Swift Swim in order to better cover Steelix's water weakness, as well as keeping him safe from the burn chance of Scald.
Good Day ._.

Re: MediHat's Core of the Day
I thought I had Water Absorb on him lol silly me
and I totally forgot about Gyro Ball, thanks for the catch!
And yeah, I thought about investing some in Steelix's Sp. Def. I just didn't know if it was worth it. How many should I put in? All 252, and just leave Def uninvested as it's already so high?

Re: MediHat's Core of the Day
Uhh, from past experiences I liked to run around 132 evs and careful/sassy, but thats just me
Re: MediHat's Core of the Day
Just a suggestion for next time, Jelliscor + Ferrothorn is a pretty amazing combination. I saw Jellithorn, but these three cover their weaknesses all together now. Its pretty awesome for a standard Defensive Core.
Re: MediHat's Core of the Day
-_-, do my sceptile and a Skarmory. please.

Re: MediHat's Core of the Day
That's not a very good core, because of the massive fire weakness. Skarmory can't take hits from special attackers that use fire, and Sceptile isn't going to enjoy it as much as him either. Also, is it offensive or defensive? Because skarmory as an offensive pokemon makes me lul. Sceptile as a defensive pokemon also makes me lol.
Re: MediHat's Core of the Day
I think he meant seperately. And I will deffinitely do SkarmChance at some point down the line, but I need to think of something creative tomorrow

CroakDoom
MediHat here with one last gem from UU, (I'll start doing OU tomorrow for a little while) and my first offensive core!: Toxicroak and Houndoom!
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Toxicroak (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Dry Skin
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Drain Punch/Ice Punch
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance/Bulk Up/Focus Punch
- Substitute
Toxicroak had to be my favorite Pokemon that came out of the 4th generation. It's set and strategy to using it is quite simple. Come in on a Poke that can't do anything to it, Sub on the switch, then Swords Dance or Bulk Up and sweep with Perfect coverage through Drain Punch and Sucker Punch, and even priority with the latter. A SubPuncher set could also be used, allowing him immediate power and the option to use Ice Punch for coverage (which should ONLY be used when SubPunching). With it's unique ability, Dry Skin, it completely changes it's overall synergy with other Pokemon, giving it a Water immunity and a Fire weakness, which makes it a perfect partner for...

Houndoom (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit
- Fire Blast/Overheat
- Hidden Power [Grass]/Crunch
Houndoom's first set that works very well against the abundance of Psychic types in UU that threaten
Toxicroak. Pursuit and Sucker Punch put extremem pressure on the opponent to predict correctly, as just one misprediction could cause them to lose an important part of their team. Pursuit to hit a switch-out and Sucker Punch to hit an opponent who thinks you will Pursuit and decides to stay in. Fire Blast to provide some exceptional coverage as very few Pokemon in UU resist Dark and Fire STABs. Hidden power [Grass] can be used to hit Quagsire and Bulky Waters hard (although you will usually be switching out to Toxicroak, while Crunch can be used as a reliable Dark STAB to KO Psychic types that will stay in and you can outspeed.
OR
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Houndoom (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Nasty Plot
- Taunt/Hidden Power [Grass]
Houndoom also performs well as a special Sweeper, as he can set up on the Psychic and Fire types he switches into from Croak. After a Nasty Plot, nothing will enjoy taking a Fire Blast (especially if it's Flash Fire-Boosted) and once again no common UU Pokes resist Houndoom's great dual STABs. The last move is personal preference between Taunt, which can shut down dedicated Walls, such as Chansey and HP [Grass] for the extra coverage.
This marks my third Core of the Day (CotD ) and I have to say that I really enjoy doing these! So keep the suggestions for future ones and feedback for past one rolling in! And feel free to implement these into your owns teams; I don't mind at all, that's really what these are here for

Re: MediHat's Core of the Day
Good Set! I can see Terrakion being a problem, however. Outspeeds both pokemon without CS. Ohkos them both with Earthquake, but other than that, I can't think of much countering it
Re: MediHat's Core of the Day
I forgot about Terrakion in UU lol That's what I get for taking this straight from 4th gen... but yeah, he barrels through theses guys. You'd either want a Levitating or Flying defensive Poke to help you deal with it. And Unaware Quaggy hurts these guys too, unless Houndoom is packing HP [Grass].

Re: MediHat's Core of the Day
Putting Sceptile in a core is sorta tricky. He can work fantastically as a stand-alone sweeper, as he's such a surprise. I am however going to do Skarm-Chance tomorrow, as that works much better than SkarmBliss this generation.
