The Perfect Storm (RMT)
This is Copy-Pasted from Serebii, so it might have some formatting problems
After the great success that I had with my last team (Synergy 101), I decided to make another, even better one. I was scrolling through Smogon's most recent magazine and I came across an article about Thundurus and decided that I wanted to base my team around his sweeping capabilities. So here's my team which has peaked in the Top 300 of PO, The Perfect Storm!

Politoed (M) @ Zoom Lens Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SAtk
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Hydro Pump
- Blizzard
- Focus Blast
- Hypnosis
The first key piece to getting Thundurus a
successful sweep by setting up the Rain. I saw this set suggested by
UserName on Smogon and decided to add it into my team, as it's
completely genius. I know what you're thinking, why make him super
slow? Well, it allows him to get Rain up before other Weather-setters
(the slower Pokemon's weather overrules the fasters) and makes him be
able to use the Zoom Lens to increase the accuracy of his most powerful
moves. It boosts accuracy by 20 percent, making Hydro Pump have 100
accuracy, Blizzard and Focus Blast have 90 and hypnosis have 80. A
wonderful set that hits everything hard.
Synergy Check:
Grass-- Dragonite, Jirachi, Toxicroak
Electric-- Most of my other Pokes can take an electric hit and set-up on the Pokemon
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Toxicroak (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Sucker Punch
- Drain Punch
- Swords Dance
My little buddy from the 4th gen who worked so
well in tandem with Houndoom last gen in UU. But those times are
behind us and Toxicroak now has found a substantial niche in OU with
Politoed as his new partner in crime. He usually switches in on a
resisted attack and proceeds to set up a Sub, easing my prediction a
little bit and healing half of the damage with Dry Skin. Then it's a
simple Swords Dance and then sweep. Drain Punch for STAB and Recovery
and Sucker Punch for Priority and fantastic coverage with Drain Punch. He counters the Rock types that give Thundurus a Headache (such as Tyranitar).
Synergy Check:
Psychic-- Jirachi, Starmie
Ground-- Dragonite, Thundurus
Flying-- Jirachi
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Thundurus (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunder
- Nasty Plot
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Focus Blast
Thundurus hits like a truck and has the most
trollish Speed Stat ever in 111. Let me put that in perspective: Lati@s
have 110 Speed, as does Gengar, and
countless other huge threats to this team. Thundurus comes in on a
Resisted move or an Earthquake and, after a Nasty Plot, can sweep entire
teams. Thunder is a huge and accurate STAB
in the Rain and deals out huge damage even to Pokes that resist it.
Hidden Power [Ice] for pseudo-BoltBeam coverage and Focus Blast to
round out the coverage and happens to be this team's only check to
Ferrothorn (I could use another).
Synergy Check:
Rock-- Toxicroak, Jirachi
Ice-- Jirachi, Starmie
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Ferrothorn (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Power Whip
Ferrothorn is a fantastic addition to the team as he
provides Rocks and more general Bulk. He is also One of my only counters
to Bulky waters that take advantages of my Rain. Quite a Standard, but
effective set.
Synergy Check:
Fire-- My entire team basically counters Fire
Fighting-- Starmie, Thundurus, Toxicroak
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Starmie @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Thunder
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
My Spinner who helps keep Thundurus'
switch-ins safe from Stealth Rocks. I originally thought that Starmie
was to frail to be part of my defensive core, but then I looked at it's
60/85/85 defenses, which could be better, but aren't terrible. Recover
just in case Starmie needs to Spin more than once and Hydro Pump and
Thunder for some nice offensive options after Starmie has finished
Spinning.
Synergy Check:
Electric-- (Look at Politoed)
Grass-- Jirachi, Dragonite
Bug-- Dragonite, Thundurus
Dark-- Toxicroak
Ghost-- Jirachi (can counter most Ghosts)
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Thunder
What is this?! A Jirachi that doesn't try
to Flinch the Opponent to death?! This set provides a fantastic
surprise factor and can do some serious damage. Since HaxRachi is so
prevalent, the opponent will most likely switch out to an appropriate
counter to it, and be utterly flabbergasted when I set up a Sub. Then
it's up to just a few Calm Minds and I will be able to sweep with a
STAB Psychic and an accurate Thunder, which has a 60% chance of
Paralysis with Serene Grace.
Synergy Check:
Ground-- Dragonite, Thundurus
No Fire Weakness cause of rain [Only admins are allowed to see this image]

Here's the entire inspiration for the team, and a Powerful Special Sweeper in his own right. However, to pull off easier and more potent sweeps, he needed one specific partner:
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Politoed sets up Perma-Rain, which gives Thundurus a 100% Accurate, 120 BP STAB to sweep with. I've also set up Politoed with a custom moveset that makes his a great Pokemon in general as well. Next, I needed to cover his weaknesses. First, as his Ice weakness is covered nicely by Toed, his Rock weakness needs some support:
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Toxicroak was my favorite Pokemon to use in UU last gen and has made a nice Niche for himself in OU this gen. As my main Rock and T-Tar counter, he's very important to the success of this team. And now on to the defensive core that is part of every Balanced team that I make:
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
My first attempts at a core always seem to fail miserably... Anyway, this group fell flat on their face, mostly because I overlooked that I had TWO POKEMON OF THE EXACT SAME TYPE (Zapdos and Thundurus) and I HAD NO SPINNER FOR THUNDURUS. But yeah, back to the drawing board.
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
This is my final core that I must say works fantastically well. They cover each others weaknesses and can each put some dents in the opponents team as well. And this is the final team!:

Re: The Perfect Storm (RMT)
kk, I'll just go throught this stuff one by one, sound good?
Ayte, Poli looks good, pretty solid stuff. Remember to set his speed EVs to 12, so as he is slower than Quiet/Sassy Ttar, as you really don't need to be going slower than anything else, so setting it to 0 is a waste. Also, I believe you may have something confused, Zooms Lens increases a move's accuracy by 20% of the original accuracy, not overall, meaning Hydro Pump will be 96%, Blizzard/Focus Blast will be 84% and Hypnosis will be 72%. Small mention, but something you should know.
As much as I love Toxicroak, he isn't offering all that much for your team :/ Toxicroak's main purpose on a rain team in a Conkeldurr counter and an aborsorber of Tspikes (which is competes with RD Tentacruel for). However, seeing as Poli, Starmie and even Thundurus to a degree can check him, that potential is somewhat unnoticed. If you want an offensive poke that badly I suppose it's all well and good, but maybe you could play around with that spot a bit (perhaps Chansey, your team would thoroughly enjoy someone to pass some Wishes off).
No real comments on Thunderbro, it's a time-tested formula I can't really object to. You may want to try Taunt over FB some time, it's a cool option to have on it.
Ferro sets I've seen I have had objections for a while now to for one reason: max hp. When running Leech Seed, it has always been recommended to pool your EVs into your defenses first, and your Hp second, but that has never seen application with Ferro. So as a suggestion, try taking just 64 EVs in Hp, putting the rest in other stats, and see how that fares, for my sake. kk?
Starmie looks solid, but some minor nitpicks here. If it's meant to be a spinner, wouldn't Lefties be preferable? Also, you say that you have Recover in your explanation of him, but it has Ice Beam in the given set. What is it bud
'Rachi's lookin' pretty solid, but wouldn't Psyshock be better for it? After all, with that your 'rachi would have the potential to break basically all the Chansey-based cores (Skarm-Chan, Chan-Bro, etc.), so yeah...
Anywho, pretty good stuff, I'd say right now Chansey/Blissey would be problematic for most of your team (unless you run dat big Psycshock on your 'rachi :3). Otherwise, good luck with all that rot. Hope I was of assistance 'n stuff

Re: The Perfect Storm (RMT)
Thanks a bunch 49th and I just now realized that this was the original post in my RMT on Serebii, so I had actually made some changes:
Toxicroak is now this:
(Toxicroak) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Ice Punch
- Sucker Punch
- Cross Chop
- Swords Dance
And Starmie is now Tentacruel:
Tentacruel (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Magic Coat
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
And I will try that EV spread on Ferrothorn. It allows me to throw in some more Defensive EVs to make him a little more bulky in general
