Who actually bloody knows what this even is?

Post by 49th Parallel on Tue Aug 09, 2011 3:19 am

Well, seeing as I can't manage to actually manage to find anybody to actually test this bloody team, feedback for this team is all the more vital :/ So here you have it, a purely unpolished Gen 4 LC team, going solely off what I remember from back when this was actually played .-.

[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Drifloon (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Unburden
EVs: 36 HP / 116 Atk / 200 SAtk / 120 Spd
Rash Nature (+SAtk, -SDef)
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Explosion
- Hypnosis

Rather basic, but it should get things don in theory. With the given investment, it can outspeed basically the entire metagame after Unburden, as well as being able to take an Ice Shard from a 184 Atk Adamant Snover (including weather damages). The basic idea is to have a semi-reliable method of limiting Fake Out leads, checking Lead Machop w/out Lum Berry (Focus Sash/Oran Berry is ran more often than not), and stopping the opponent from setting up rocks too easily. Shadow Ball is for stab, with Hp Fighting obviously working for coverage. Explosion allows me to get a safe switch into my next poke, as well as surprising Munchlax, Chinchou, etc. Hypnosis's accuracy is somewhat shaky, but it works for him Razz

[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Porygon @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Trace
EVs: 36 Def / 236 SAtk / 196 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Tri Attack
- Shadow Ball
- Ice Beam
- Trick

Porygon in basically my utility check to stuff like Gastly and Gligar. With a Choice Scarf, Porygon hits 21 speed, outrunning all the un-scarfed metagame. Tri-Attack offers a clean stab, with Shadow Ball hitting Gastly and other such Ghosts/Psychics and Ice Beam knocking off Gligar and such. Trick is nice for crippling the likes of Munchlax (a major threat for this team), who could otherwise come in on Porygon with impunity.

[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Chinchou (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 76 HP / 52 Def / 232 SAtk / 140 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Agility

Mmk, so just if you weren't already aware, Chinchou is sorta kinda a bo$$. Not only is he a Water type, which was arguably one of the best types in the metagame, but he also has an Electric sub-type, with Volt Absorb no less, making him incredibly useful. After one Agility he hits 30 speed, allowing him to outspeed basically everything, allowing him to outrun any Diglett switch-ins. Thunderbolt and Surf offer clean dual stab, and Hp Grass allow me to get dat nice OHKO on Wooper.

[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Gligar (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sand Veil
EVs: 236 Atk / 236 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Aerial Ace
- Night Slash
- U-turn

Another key member in the Gen 4 LC metagame, Gligar function as nice revenge killer/scout on my team. EQ and Aerial Ace offer stab, with U-turn allowing me to scout the switch. Night Slash is mainly run for a safe KO on stuff like Gastly.

[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Bronzor @ Oran Berry
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 140 HP / 4 Atk / 228 Def / 4 SAtk / 68 SDef / 16 Spd
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Psychic
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Stealth Rock

So yeah, before I start, I think I should get a medal or something for finding a conventional way of putting EVs in every stat ._. Back to actual stuff, as I mentioned before, Gligar is a key member of the metagame. As of such, in the event that I can't manage to come across him with Chinchou at +2 speed, Bronzor can counter him quite well. Bronzor resists both of his stabs, and Hp Ice deals 87.0-104.3% to an uninvested Gligar, almost always OHKOing after SR damage. Psychic allows me to ward of Machop and the like, consistently 2HKOing any variant. EQ gives me something to hit the likes of Aron and such, as well as scaring off Chinchou.

[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Exeggcute (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 36 HP / 40 Atk / 200 SAtk / 200 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Explosion
- Sleep Powder

Sorta my usual "awkward last slot poke" syndrome, but the basic idea of this poke is to deal with irritating Grass types, while still not becoming to focused on such a task that it loses any real relevance :/ With his typing, Exeggute gains a handful of useful resistances, including Fighting, Ground, Water, and so on. Leaf Storm is his primary stab, hitting really whoever doesn't resist it hard. Hp Fire allows him to deal with aformentioned Grass types relatively easily. Explosion gives me a back-up method of dealing with Munchlax, as well as hitting common switch-ins like Houndour hard. Sleep Powder is always helpful, being basically the only reliable form of sleep move in LC.

So there you have it. As I mentioned before, I haven't yet gotten the chance to test it, but I suppose that's how it goes sometimes Razz

If it's one of the only Gen 4 LC teams you've seen, that comment doesn't count .-.

Here are some pointers I have for you.

Drifloon appears to be pretty solid. Good Work Here! ^_^

For Porygon, I would suggest getting rid of Tri-Attack or Shadow Ball for Psychic to give type coverage, preferably Shadow Ball though, Because Gastly is actually a Ghost/Poison type so it's quad effective I believe and if not it still does 2X damage.

With Chinchou, Replace HP Grass with HP Ice. This provides good coverage against it's only real weakness, Ground, as well as giving coverage against Dragon, Grass, and Flying Types, and allows it to hit opposing Gligar for 4X Damage.

Gligar needs something for coverage as well. I would say raplacing Night Slash with Brick Break. Although Night Slash does have something going for it in its High Crit Ratio, Brick Break covers all the bases. This is good seeing as you already have coverage against Gastly in Drifloon and Porygon.

Bronzor is pretty good IMO, However, it is always an option to swap HP Ice for Water. This gives coverage against Fire, seeing as you don't need coverage against ground with Levitate, and it can usually 2-3HKO Gligars after SR damage and scare/kill them off before they can do too much.

Nothing is wrong with Exeggcute...Ever...

Well, I already have Shadow Ball on Pory, so running Psychic doesn't really help anything over the general extra power offered by a stab Tri Attack.

There really isn't as great a need for an Ice type move with Chinchou as both Grass and Dragon Types are quite rare in LC, save Dratini who is checked quite well Porygon and Bronzor. However, Wooper is extremely popular, and can take an Ice Beam and KO with EQ. Thus, I run Hp Grass to maintain my sweep's momentum.

Ground/Flying actually offers almost perfect neutral coverage in LC (save I believe just Bronzor :/). I run Night Slash because it can OHKO any standard Gastly who can otherwise run amuk on my team.

Since Air Balloon doesn't exist, Moltres, Ho-oh Charizard aren't LC and Shuca Berry is non-existant in LC, EQ is more than enough to hit the rare Fire types, so I keep Hp Ice to better ward off Gligar and Dragonite. For example, here are some calcs:

4 Atk Bronzor's EQ v. 76 Def Ponyta*= 84.2-100.0% (OHKO after SR)
4 Atk Bronzor's EQ v. Hasty Magby*= 115.7-131.6%
4 Atk Bronzor's EQ v. 44 Hp/12 Def Cynadquil= 85.7-100% (OHKO after SR)
*=Assuming from reduced EVs to hit 19 Hp

So yeahhhhh

@ Elliot: gtfo ._.

@UltimateLatios: Not to be rude, but what relevance does that have this thread? Because if it does in fact have something to do with this, I don't want to simply disregard it

Alright, I actually looked at the team this time. I don't know much, but I did want to point out a few things.

1. I think you should drop the Hypnosis on Drifbloon, and add a Tbolt, or Icy Wind, or something. You're not going to use Hypnosis all that much I think, I. THINK.

2. Execute, it is somewhat awkward, I, for some reason, feel it could be improved I don't know what, or why, but play around with that spot a little.

That's just it.
And no u gtfo. ._.

As much as I don't really love using an iffy move like Hypnosis, it's my only real response to the likes Non-Lum Berry Lead Machop. Shadow Ball only does 56-68% to the standard variant, whereas Machop can simply Payback me down to my sash and pick me off with Bullet Punch. Even if I ran Psychic to counteract such a threat, it only rarely nets the OHKO (84-100%), and even then there's a fair chance that it's carrying a sash :/ Moreover, it's an awesome tool to help me shut down the likes of Geodude, Phanpy, Snover, etc. early in the game.

As for Exggecute, I really am pretty bad at picking a final poke, but he just seemed to act as a nice "glue" for my team at the time. I'll be sure to test that spot once I actual manage to get some matches in Razz
